Drustan | Stag | King
The day was drawing to a close, the rain had abated and Óganach was treating them to a beautiful golden sunset through the canopy of the Glenwood. The does and fawns were spent after racing for their lives, and Drustan himself was dead on his feet. He and the other stags were inspecting the woods nearby, removing traces of their passing and checking for Glenmore's scouts. He'd barely had time to reflect on the day's happenings and as tired as he was now he knew even trying would sap what was left of his energy.
Stepping up a rise and trotting quietly through the ferns, movement ahead caught his eye as a grey stag emerged from behind a tree. Huffing in relief when he saw it was no stranger, he dipped his head in greeting. "Jackdaw," he muttered, stepping over to the stag. Now was as good a time as any to speak to the stag, with Bó out of earshot. "About what happened, in the past... I'm grateful for your help now in this. Let's put what transpired behind us, and focus on the future. We need to be able to work together to protect both out families... Especially Aveline." He met the deep brown eyes of the grullo with his sincere emerald gaze. "What do you say, friend?"

It had probably been the longest day of his life, but even with the last beams of light slowly ebbing away from the woods, it was far from over. They couldn’t risk slowing down, not even for a moment; their trail might have been covered, but it wouldn’t stop them from following regardless. They had nowhere else to go but north, they had to keep moving.
Jack had been off on his own away from the group for most of the day, keeping an eye out for unwanted witnesses to their escape and removing the evidence of their presence. His family knew of his safety though – he had been sure to meet up with them as quick as he could have, but only for a brief moment. His duty was to ensure their safety, and today that was by his own magic and stamina. Mentally and physically, he was drained– but he had made it this far, and he’d continue moving forward.
He had almost been taken off guard when a familiar voice called out to him, and quickly came into sight after. Jack’s heart almost stopped – was this just a random encounter, or did the stag seek him out specifically? Jack swallowed hard, unsure of the situation exactly, but he would have to get used to living with Drustan and his family eventually, so now was a good time to start.
His proposal also almost took him off guard. Truth be told, he was expecting Drustan to lay down some more warnings, or even just tell him to get back to work, or “check over there and do stuff, or something” – but instead, he came forth with a gesture of friendship. Jack wasn’t sure how to respond in words, but internally his gratitude could not have been described.
With a respectful nod of the head, he met his eyes and replied, “It takes a great stag to forgive something so terrible – It’s reassuring to know that ‘great stag’ is leading is through all this. It would be an honor to call you my friend, Drustan”
